JMU Club Rowing is a relatively young team - we were founded as James Madison University's erging club in 2004 and evolved into a water program in the spring of 2007 when we bought our first boat. Since then, the team has built a boathouse and constructed a dock at the South Fork of the Shenandoah River, just outside the town of Shenandoah (around thirty minutes from JMU's campus). We've added many boats to our fleet in recent years - currently, we own two eights, five fours, and two pairs. JMU Club Rowing is an entirely student-run program of around 20 men and women. We hold information meetings at the beginning of each fall and spring semester and welcome those with or without prior rowing experience. As a University sport club program, we receive partial funding and use JMU Recreation facilities, though we rely primarily on fundraising efforts, donations, and member dues to fund our team. We compete against collegiate club programs in the fall and spring seasons, traveling to both local and championship regattas including Head of the Hooch and SIRA. |
