FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is rowing experience necessary?
No - we welcome athletes of all backgrounds and skill levels. When is the rowing season? We are a year-round sport. We compete in both the fall and spring, and train off-water through the winter, but encourage members to join even if they cannot compete in both racing seasons. At the beginning of each season, we train from 6:15 - 7:30 AM at UREC, and then incorporate water practices later into the semester. When and where do you row? We row the South Fork of the Shenandoah River, a ~30 minute drive from JMU's campus. The team meets at the JMU bookstore at 5:45 AM, we are on the water from 6:15 until 7:30, and return to campus around 8:30. Please note that 8:00 AM classes DO NOT work with our practice schedule - try to avoid enrolling in classes that meet before 9:05 if you intend to row. We may be able to make exceptions to this - contact us. Do you need coxswains? Always! Fill out our recruitment questionnaire if you're interested. For those without experience, information can be found under the coxswains tab. Unsure if you want to join? Reach out to us! Try out a couple practices and see if JMU Club Rowing is for you.
